classification of liquid cooling

The so-called liquid cooling does not simply mean water. It refers to taking the liquid with high specific heat capacity as the transmission medium to take away the heat generated by it equipment or servers and cool them. At present, there are three deployment modes of liquid cooling technology, namely immersion, cold plate and spray.

 Cold plate:

The liquid-cooled cold plate is fixed on the main heating device of the server, and the heat is carried away by the liquid flowing through the cold plate to achieve the purpose of heat dissipation. The cold plate liquid cooling solves the heat dissipation of the components with large heat generation in the server, and other radiator components have to rely on air cooling. Therefore, the server using cold plate liquid cooling is also called gas-liquid dual channel server. The liquid of the cold plate does not contact the cooled device, and the heat conduction plate is used in the middle for heat transfer, with high safety.

Spray type:

The liquid is stored and opened at the top of the cabinet, and the cooling liquid is allowed to spray the heating element according to the position and heat generation of the heating element, so as to achieve the purpose of equipment cooling. The sprayed liquid is in direct contact with the cooled device, and the cooling efficiency is high; However, when the liquid encounters high-temperature objects during the spraying process, it will drift and evaporate. Mist droplets and gas will be emitted to the outside of the cabinet along the holes and gaps of the cabinet, resulting in a decrease in the environmental cleanliness of the machine room or an impact on other equipment.

Submerged:

The heating element is directly immersed in the cooling liquid, and the heat generated by the operation of the server and other equipment is taken away by the flow circulation of the liquid. Submerged liquid cooling is a typical direct contact liquid cooling. Since the heating element is in direct contact with the cooling liquid, the heat dissipation efficiency is higher and the noise is lower, which can solve the mystery of preventing high heat. Submerged liquid cooling is divided into two-phase liquid cooling and single-phase liquid cooling. The heat dissipation mode can be in the form of dry cooler and cooling tower.
